Happy Independence Day, Pakistan!
Today is when my country, green and pure, strong and steadfast, vigorous yet humble, brave and passionate, came into being. The land of the five rivers, of plateaus and plains, mountains and deserts – the land that has it all.
With a soaring sentinel in the North at K2 (the second highest peak of the world), a powerful soldier gushing through its veins in Indus River, and clouds of peace and heavenly serenity gathering in the heavens on Earth in Kyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan is home to rich and diverse cultures that have been strengthening its backbone for more than six decades.
Still young, Pakistan has a long way to go. It is the youth, the largest asset of this country, that can help it achieve new heights and advance it in the race of the 21st century.
Pakistan holds a promising body of youth (a population of 167 million – the 6th largest nation of the world). It has stood the perils of time and become the 9th largest English speaking country in the world. Who can be hopeless about the future of the 7th largest pool of scientists and engineers? the 7th nuclear power of the world? and 7th largest standing armed force in the world? With heroes like M. M. Alam (world record holder for shooting down 5 planes in less than a minute). Home to 4 of the 14 highest peaks in the world, it sits with glory and pride, where time stops and fairy treads (Hunza Valley).
Wonders of this land never cease to awe us: Asia’s highest railway station at Kan Mehtarzai at 2240m above sea level near Quetta. World’s highest polo ground at Shandur, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Bridging gaps and forming ties even in the toughest of terrains (Karakoram Highway – eighth wonder of the world). Expanding horizons with the world’s largest deep sea port at Gwadar. Preserving out heritage of hard work and toil at the Khewra Salt Mines (world’s second largest salt mine). Providing shelter in Asia’s largest bird sanctuary at Shandur Lake. Protecting our roots in Moen-jo-Daro (world’s oldest civilisation):
This is my land. This is my home. This is my Pakistan. I am a part of it and I will be the change I want to see in this beloved country honed by the sweat and blood of generations before and generations to come.
God bless Pakistan! Ameen!
